Updates for your past self
Dec 20, 2024I'm guilty of spending a lot of time looking ahead to the future - setting goals, planning, and occasionally waking up in the middle of the night worrying about oh so many things.
In coaching, we often orient towards the future we long for.
So this week, I want to share a gift of looking back. This isn't your usual reflection practice.
Here's how we'll do it - you can follow along in written form or listen to the audio recording:
Start by choosing a moment in your life in the past when you were longing for change. For the sake of this solo practice, let's not look for the MOST intense moment, but like a 5-7 out of 10.
Now really remember back to what it was like for you emotionally, the setting and environment around you, and tune into those longings you felt.
Imagining your present-day self dropping in to visit past self in that moment, update past you on all that's transpired since then.
Let past you know about all the people who helped you along the way, the longings that have been met, and the new possibilities that have emerged.
Returning to the present moment, what do you notice? What feels different?
