About

As someone who cares deeply about working for collective liberation, it massively sucks that so many people who are dedicated to social impact are overworked, underpaid, and chronically undervalued (aka exploited). I serve the changemakers, trouble makers, and do-gooders to help you find your professional home (for now) where you can maximize your positive impact in a sustainable way.

nice to meet you

I'm Julia Firestone

(she/her)

After starting a career focused on social impact, I was burnt out and feeling undervalued. It did NOT look like my vision for contributing to collective social change. As I moved from nonprofits to corporate social impact, I was able to grow a thriving network of "professional friends" to make career change a whole lot easier.

Now as a social impact coach working with purpose-driven leaders and mid-career professionals, I use what I’ve learned to help people like you find joy and ease in the midst of big life changes. I’ll show you how to stop spinning your wheels, start getting traction in your career move, and grow meaningful professional relationships to make brave career changes that enable you to contribute to collective and systemic social change.

Learn how to trust yourself and show up as the leader you want to be in the world.

My Story

I always knew I wanted to be of service in the world, contributing to social change at personal and systemic levels, so after graduating from Hampshire College, I set out to find an organization where I could make meaningful impact. With so much passion for education and equity I expected opportunities to be abundant. Fast forward to 6 months after graduating from college and I'd worked as a day camp counselor, a minimum wage part-time fundraiser for a small nonprofit (where I was ultimately fired for a small email typo), and a nanny for multiple families in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

I felt exhausted and hopeless competing with thousands of applicants to get unpaid internships, but I wasn't ready to give up on building a career in social impact.

I stopped trying to fulfill the perfect expectations of open roles and started getting curious about entrepreneurship, creating business with a friend which ultimately led to a paid nonprofit internship in community development. I started to create communities of social impact professionals to support one another and learned the power of relationships for building the career you desire.

Now I combine my skills as a trained coach with my experiences in nonprofit leadership, corporate social impact, innovation and strategy, and startups to help changemakers create careers that align with your values, meet your needs, and bring us closer to collective liberation.

- Laura Saracho

"Julia's experience with social impact, innovation, and strategy, as well as her drive to keep learning, have worked together to help her build the coaching tool kit that will guide you toward your goals."

Why I Do It

Capitalism is a powerful system that thrives on us feeling isolated and inadequate. That isolation was always the biggest challenge at every career pivot I've made. But the truth is, we're not operating alone! And when we look at making systemic change from a wider and intersectional view (Dr. Kimberley Crenshaw), we see that there are so many of us advocating for equity, dignity, and liberation.

I do this work to honor your commitment to a career of service and to inspire the ripple effects of positive change that come from conscious leaders building movements and momentum for the causes and communities that most inspire them.

I also do this in order to create more space for play, creativity, and joyfulness. You are worthy of them all, dear one.
